Drug insurance
Reducing private spending on drugs is a real support for insured people in treatment.
Together, let's create insurance for them so they pay less for medicines.
Read the material from which you will learn more about drug subsidies.
What is drug insurance?
Reducing private spending on drugs is a real support for insured people in treatment.
They reduce drug expenses that the insured would incur out of pocket.
They supplement the public drug reimbursement system where it does not fully meet the needs of the insured.
Insurance coverage may include drugs that are partially reimbursed by the National Health Service, as well as those that are completely outside of public funding.
When purchasing drugs related to an illness, hospital stay or accident, part of the drug payment is covered by insurance, reducing the amount the insured pays out of pocket.

The insured can choose between a cashless model, which avoids committing his or her own funds, or a cash model, in which money is returned to the insured after the transaction is completed.

Why should drug subsidies be included in your insurance quote?
This is in response to the needs of Poles who are looking for a way to reduce private spending on medicines.
Poles' needs for financial support for medical treatment are among the highest in Europe - as much as 64% of drug expenses are covered by Poles out of their own pockets.
In addition, the list of publicly reimbursed drugs is one of the most limited in Europe. This is especially true for innovative drugs used to treat the most serious diseases, such as oncological diseases.
What is the role of drug insurance?
By expanding its offerings to include a product such as drug insurance, the company can offer its customers comprehensive support in taking care of their health - from visiting the doctor, to examinations, to subsidizing the purchase of medicines.

They help reduce private drug spending.

They complement the public drug reimbursement system.

They increase access to pharmacotherapy, including innovative drugs.

They have a positive impact on the health of Poles.

Have questions?
Take a look at the questions our business partners ask us most often.
What is drug insurance?
This is insurance that allows reimbursement for the purchase of medicines covered by the insurance contract. In the situation of purchasing medicines related to the occurrence of an illness, hospital stay or accident, part of the payment for medicines is covered by the insurance, and the insured person from his own pocket has to cover only a small part of the payment.
What is included in drug insurance?
The scope of covered products is agreed with the insurance company. We try to ensure that it is tailored to the actual needs of the insured and the type of insurance of which the drug module is a part.
How much does drug insurance cost?
The amount of the premium depends on many factors - the range of products, the level of subsidy, the design of the insurance. The value of the premium is always the result of epruf discussions with the insurance company.
How is the premium calculated?
The premium is calculated by epruf, taking into account the product concept agreed with the insurance company and a range of data related to the functioning of the pharmaceutical market. When proposing the value of the premium for the benefit payment, epruf presents the insurance company with an analytical document detailing the recommended amount. In addition, at each stage, epruf analysts answer actuarial questions.
How can the insured benefit from drug insurance?
Drug insurance can be provided in one of two models:
- Non-cash - when purchasing a drug at one of the pharmacies cooperating with epruf, the insured shows the pharmacist his drug ID. Subsidization occurs automatically when the transaction is finalized at the pharmacy within a fraction of a second. This model is available in 75% of pharmacies in Poland.
- cash - at any pharmacy, the insured pays for the medicines himself, after which he sends a claim for reimbursement through the web application or by mail. After verification of the application, the funds are transferred to the bank account indicated by the insured.
How to create drug insurance?
epruf has experience in handling the full process of launching and operating drug insurance:
- identifies the needs of the insurance company and its customers;
- prepares a preliminary insurance concept with premium calculations;
- works out the final shape of the product in cooperation with the insurance company;
- Cooperates in the preparation of cooperation agreements, general terms and conditions of insurance;
- Supports the insurance company in the implementation of drug insurance from the communication, sales, marketing side;
- implements insurance from the operational and IT side in cooperation with the insurance company;
- supports drug insurance;
- conducts analysis for the insurance company;
- Accounts for benefits paid to the insured;
- settles benefits with pharmacies that support a cashless model;
- reports to the insurance company;
- Updates the scope of covered drugs;
- handles complaints;
- Provides and maintains a web application for policyholders (custom-label application).
The detailed scope of epruf services is agreed with the insurance company.
What is the role of the insurance company?
The detailed division of roles is always decided between the insurance company and epruf in the course of discussions. Most often, the insurance company is responsible for product sales and marketing.
How does an insurance company need to prepare to implement drug insurance?
How an insurance company prepares to implement drug insurance is based on a number of factors. These are determined during discussions with epruf.
epruf seeks to offer solutions that involve the insurance company as little as possible.
